stretchy="true|false" - Stretch Toggle

Q

How to turn on or off stretched operators manually?

✍: FYIcenter.com

A

To turn on or turn off stretched operators manually, you can use the stretchy="true|false" attribute on the <mo> tag.

Automatically stretched (vertically or horizontally) operators can be turned off with the stretchy="false" attribute.

Some regular operators can be turned on to stretch vertically with the stretchy="true" attribute. For example: /, and \.

Some other regular operators can be turned on to stretch horizontally with the stretchy="true" attribute. For example: -, and =.

See the sample MathML code below:

<math><mo stretchy="true">/</mo><mfrac><mi>A</mi><mi>B</mi></mfrac>
  <mo>/</mo><mo>≠</mo><munderover><mrow><mi>A</mi><mi>B</mi></mrow>
  <mo stretchy="true">=</mo><mo>=</mo></munderover></math>
  /AB
    /≠AB
    ==
