Can I open a Word document that has a password protection in Word Online?

The answer is NO. Word Online does not support Word documents with password protection.

But you can still store Word documents with passwords in OneDrive and use Word desktop to edit them online or offline. You wouldn't be able to open in Word Online a Web browser.

If you try to open a Word document protected with a password, you will this error:

Sorry, Word Online can't open this document for editing
because it is protected by a password. To edit this 
document, please open it in Microsoft Word.
