Where are Notepad++ backup files located on Windows? I want to recover my file after Notepad++ crashed.

By default, Notepad++ backup files are located at: %AppData%\Notepad++\backup on Windows system.

On Windows 7 systems, %AppData% is: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\. So the backup file location on Windows 7 system is: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Notepad++\backup.

Notepad++ files are name like: original_file_name@2015-10-31_202757. The last part tells when the backup file was created.

Once you located the backup file, you can copy it back to where the original file is.
