Identifiers of Well-Known Entities

Q

How to represent identifiers of well-known entities (constants, functions and operators)?

A

"ISO 80000-2 Quantities and Units - Mathematics" specifies that identifiers of well-known constants, functions and operators should be presented in Roman upright style.

For multi-letter identifiers, the <mi> tag is rendered in upright style correctly. But for single-letter identifiers, you need to use the mathvariant="normal" attribute stop the italic style. For example:

<math><mi>sin</mi><mo>⁡</mo><mi>θ</mi>
  <mo>=</mo><mi>cos</mi><mo>⁡</mo>
  <mo>(</mo><mn>0.5</mn><mi mathvariant="normal">π</mi><mo>-</mo><mi>θ</mi>
  <mo>)</mo></math>
    sin⁡θ
      =cos⁡
      (0.5π-θ
      )
