Function Arguments - U+2061 and "mrow" Tag

Q

What is the issue when <mrow> tag and Invisible Function Application, ⁡, operator are used together?

A

If the function identifier has multiple letters, the sequence of "<mo>⁡</mo><mrow><mo>(</mo>..." will be rendered with an extra space. This does not meet the ISO 80000-2 standard. For example:

With ⁡ added - Extra space:
<math><mi>cos</mi><mo>⁡</mo>
  <mrow><mo>(</mo><mi>ω</mi><mi>t</mi><mo>+</mo><mi>a</mi><mo>)</mo></mrow>
  </math>
    cos⁡
      (ωt+a)

With ⁡ removed - No space:
<math><mi>cos</mi><mo>⁡</mo>
        <mo>(</mo><mi>ω</mi><mi>t</mi><mo>+</mo><mi>a</mi><mo>)</mo>
  </math>
    cos⁡
            (ωt+a)
